Sauna Effect, Huffman Extended Route
It felt like a sauna as I began today’s bike ride at 9:38 AM. The ride went south and east on my “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman Extended” route. The extended part took me north of FM 1960 on FM 2100 to Smith Road, west on Smith Road and back to FM 1960 on E Lake Houston Parkway. I rode my Lynskey R300 bike. The ride traveled 35.31 miles finishing at 12:29 PM. On Pinewood Bluff Lane another cyclist passed me going the other direction. Later at the church on Fairlake lane several cyclists were in the parking lot. I couldn’t tell if they were getting ready to ride or putting their bikes on the bike racks. I waved as I rode by. This was the 2nd time riding this route in 2021. My week is up to 141.58 miles setting a potential 200 mile week.
The sauna effect came from the high humidity and dew point at the start. The wind was light to calm not helping with cooling. Weather conditions: start 86 (81% humidity, 79 dew point), a few clouds, wind S 4 mph; finish 90 (59% humidity, 74 dew point), partly cloudy, wind calm. Cold water from my CamelBak was good during the ride.
While Strava said the ride was consistent with my usual efforts my legs felt tired. It took a long time to get my average speed to 13 mph. Some of that is the number of stops signs and traffic lights on this route compared to rides to the north.
