Unexpected Axle Benefit, Spring Creek Greenway Bike Ride
Continuing a variety of bike ride routes this week I rode the Spring Creek Greenway today. I left home at 9:56 AM riding my Lynksey R300 bike. Instead of riding the entire greenway to I-45 I just went to John Pundt Park and then back. This is the second time I rode this portion of the greenway this year. I rode 40.02 miles, just enough to get this week’s total to 150.17 miles. July went to 962.29 miles. This is the most miles in a month since June 2015. Overall this year I rode the greenway 9 times, 3 of those in July which is out of the ordinary when I usually ride just 1 time per month. On the way back home I took the new sections I found on the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway. This marks the 28th biking day out of 29 in July.
It got hotter today. The greenway offers more shade than biking on roads so it was a good choice today. Weather conditions: start 87 (67% humidity, 74.4 dew point), a few clouds, wind NW 6 mph; finish 92 (53% humidity, 72.5 dew point), partly cloudy, wind N 7 mph. I stopped at John Pundt Park before heading back to the I-69/US59 trailhead for a rest break. The CamelBak kept the water cold. I ate a granola bar and a cereal bar.
I didn’t think I would notice any difference riding the Lynskey with the new Robert Axle Project axles but the disc brake rubbing was gone. In some situations the discs would rub with the Lynskey thru axles. I think being able to tighten the Robert Axles more kept the wheels from moving and rubbing. Plus they look cleaner.
Biking the greenway is not a speed test for me. Some bikers zip by me but I try to keep a steady pace around 14 to 15 mph slowing on the inclines. There were some bikers today but not that many. Most of them I saw riding in each direction.
