No Rain 2 Days In A Row, What Happened?
I don’t know how to handle biking two days in a row without getting rained on. That is out of the ordinary for July. But I will give it a shot. After watching stage 3 of The Tour of Wallonie on GCN+ I rolled my Lynskey R300 out the door and down the driveway at 10:21 AM. The route for today was the one I attempted on Tuesday but turned back when rain came between me and Ramsey Road as I headed east on Old Atascocita Road (Kingwood to Ramsey Road – Huffman). Today I made it all the way to Ramsey road. The 38.39 miles set me up for a 200 mile week if the weather forecast holds true. My week now totals 154.97 miles. July stands at 730.35 miles, just 70 miles to reach my 800 mile goal. This was the 5th time biking this route in 2021. If I add in 1 bike ride where I didn’t go back through Huffman the ride count is 6. That ride was about a mile and a half shorter.
Today’s distance is about average for the rides. My average speed was lower today. I think my legs were tired from yesterday’s bike ride. I couldn’t seem to get my speed above 15 mph for very long. Yet Strava says this ride was harder than my usual efforts. I was not expecting that.
In the video I talk about replacing the thru axles on my Lynskey bike after watching a YouTube video last night. I have not been able to take the axles out and put them back on as easily as the ones on my Canyon bike. The man in the video called them “wonky” and said he was going to replace them with Robert axles. I agree with the wonky assessment. I found the Robert Axle Project website and ordered front and rear axles. Unlike most bike parts they shipped today. I am looking forward to putting them on my Lynskey R300 bike. My only other wish for the Lynskey is internal cables but that is not easily changed.
Lots of clouds during today’s bike ride. A couple of times I thought there might be one or two with rain but nothing came of that. Overall weather conditions for today’s bike ride: start 86 (76% humidity, 77.1 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind calm; finish 89 (57% humidity, 71.6 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SW 10 mph. It seemed hotter today. I stopped at the bridge on Ramsey Road for about 10 minutes to rest and eat a cereal bar. I needed some fuel to get back home. The headwind on the way back when riding west taxed my legs but I was able to improve my overall average speed to 13 mph. Lower than yesterday.
No other bikers along the route today.
