Weather And Legs Came Together For Out/Back to McQueen Road
No light rain to contend with on today’s bike ride. At the 10:07 AM start lots of blue sky overhead while the temperature wasn’t that hot. I wanted to make up some of the miles I didn’t ride yesterday plus some route variety so I chose my ” Kingwood – FM1314 NW to McQueen Road” route. This route came into my portfolio this year due to road construction on SH 242 west of I-69/US59. Today was the 6th time I biked this route. The distance on today’s bike ride came in at 40.78 miles, slightly lower than most of the previous rides. Those miles pushed my week’s total to 116.58 miles and July to 691.96 miles. They also narrowed the difference between 2021 YTD vs 2020 miles to 71 miles. For the year I am at 5,452 miles.
The weather change from yesterday was greatly appreciated. The wind direction and speed allowed me to keep a good pace without much of a headwind. It was nice to ride at 17 to 18 mph SE on FM 1314 and not have a headwind fighting me all the way. Overall weather conditions: start 85 (72% humidity, 74.8 dew point), partly cloudy, wind W 4 mph; finish 89 (60% humidity, 73.6 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind NE 7 mph. Clouds increased as the ride went along but no threat of rain when I finished at 1:27 PM.
The weather and good legs meant my average speed got up to 14.5 mph and stayed there until returning to Kingwood.
Relive.cc compressed my 2:53:31 biking time into less than a minute.
Strava crunched the data and told me today’s bike ride was harder than my usual efforts. (click on the Strava image to go to my activity page.)
