Teach Me How To Push Record, Rain Will Not Leave Me Alone
I thought I tried to get started on today’s bike ride before 8 AM but the best I could do was Canyon Endurace wheels rolling at 8:07 AM. I rode my usual Saturday route, “Atascocita – FM 2100 – Walden” with hopes of seeing other cyclists. To capture them I mounted my Drift Ghost XL camera on the Canyon below the bolt computer. I guess I didn’t push the record button properly though. After finishing the ride at 10:51 AM I checked the SD card in the Drift and it was empty. I planned on using the Drift video and merging the Bolt computer screen capture on to it but maybe the next ride. I checked my button pushing skill then and the Drift recorded. I need to be sure the red light comes on.
There were other bikers on the route but not as many as other rides. The first ones appeared as I rode east on Kings River Drive. Then I saw more scattered along the route to FM 2100. Another thing near FM 2100 were wet road and light rain. The rain will not leave. The roads were wet enough I had to wipe the Canyon off after the bike ride.
Because I didn’t ride yesterday due to an all day rain I extended today’s route about 4 miles over the usual miles putting today’s bike ride at 36.3 miles. Not biking yesterday put making a 200 mile week a stretch. My week’s total is 170.34 miles leaving 30 mile for tomorrow. Now YTD 2021 trails 2020 YTD by 163 miles. I lost ground from the rain. July overall is at 308.38 miles, 39% of the way to my 800 mile goal. I am 50 miles ahead of the rate to reach my goal. (800/31 = 25.81 miles/day x 10 days) How today’s ride compares to the previous rides on today’s route in 2021.
Weather conditions at the start and finish: start 76 (99% humidity, 75.6 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind calm; finish 86 (80% humidity, 79.1 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 9 mph. With all of the rain humidity is high and the dew point being so close the temperature doesn’t help. I dressed for sun protection with arm sleeves but the cloud blocked the blue sky. As I approached FM 2100 headed east I thought the clouds looked like rain and sure enough in front of Triple B Services the road went from dry to wet as a line across the road. It was wet until I made the u-turn east of FM 2100 all the way back to the same spot. At FM 2100 another biker crossed towards me and I said “we can’t get away from rain” and he nodded.
A number of cars and trucks sat at the church on Fairlake Lane signaling other bikers out. I wondered if they encountered rain. I’m not sure how far east and south they ride before returning.
I earned a 3rd fastest time on Amateur Hour (2:35) as I rode the Atascocita Hike & Bike Trail as part of the extra miles.
