Wheels of Fire bike ride raises funds in support of local foundation, nonprofit

Bicycling enthusiasts were lined up long before their 8 a.m. start time Saturday, June 26, at Railport Brewing Company in downtown Waxahachie to participate in the inaugural Wheels of Fire bike ride. Participants came from the surrounding area and as far away as Oklahoma and Kansas.
The event, which was organized by Kevin and Michelle Cozine, served as a fundraiser for two local nonprofits: the Jon Wilson Foundation, which supports firefighters and their families, and Campfire Creek Therapeutic Riding Center, which provides horse therapy services for those with special needs. Each entity received $6,000, with the monies raised through rider registration fees. …

Nederland man reportedly assaults mentally challenged man, steals bike

A Jefferson County grand jury indicted a local man for allegedly punching and kicking a developmentally challenged man and stealing his electric bicycle.
The victim, authorities said, was a 32-year-old man with the mental capacity of a child between 11 and 16 years of age. Police said the victim had blood on his face near his cheek and lip when officers met with him in the 700 block of Magnolia Avenue in Port Neches on April 28.
Due to the man’s developmental delay, police believe he is incapable of defending himself.
