Paused TdF to See Local Bikers
Saturday morning bike rides with the prospect of seeing other bikers motivate me to get started earlier than on weekdays. Today was no exception with wheels down on my Canyon Endurace CF SLX bike at 8:26 AM. The route that has proven to pass other bikers is my “Atascocita – FM 2100 – Walden” one.
Following my 2021 route start as I ride out of Kingwood, the Kings River and W. Lake Houston Parkway intersection came at just over 9 miles into the bike ride. It didn’t take long after that to start seeing other bikers. I believe they are heading home having started much earlier than me. You can see many of those bikers in the video clips from today’s bike ride.
I biked 31.31 miles today pushing the week’s total to 221.91 miles and June to 851.44 miles. As I mentioned yesterday 2021 YTD miles (4693) now trails 2020 by 46 miles, up from yesterday due to a longer ride last year on this date. Tomorrow (Sunday) will be a rest day since I biked each day this week so far. I averaged 36.98 miles per ride this week.
With the 8:26 AM start the weather had not heated up yet but humidity and dew point were high. By the 10:51 AM finish the temperature went up and humidity and dew point dropped some.
The Texas sun is tough on red biking gloves. A pair of Pearl Izumi red gloves I’ve been wearing for several months faded to pink. Yesterday I received a new pair from competitive Cyclist and put them to work on today’s bike ride. I bought XL size instead of L to make getting them off easier. The mesh back and gel pads make them comfortable.
Of the 11 rides on today’s route, this was the earliest by 6 minutes, beating 6/19/2021.
While I was out biking Strava sent me an email telling me I lost the local legend on the “Old HEB Alley” segment.
