Windy Joy and Pain | New Caney – Roman Forest – Valley Ranch
Out riding the Canyon Endurace CF SLX bike on today’s bike ride. Starting at 11:05 AM I biked what I label the “New Caney – Roman Forest – Valley Ranch” route. This route goes north through New Caney and into Roman Forest looping back to I-69/US59. Veering west of I-69/US59 at Valley Ranch Parkway through Briartree and Oakhurst. From Oakhurst I continue south rejoining I-69/US59 north of Kingwood Drive where a u-turn takes me north turning east to Kings Manor and back to Kingwood. All of these roads and streets added up to 41.23 miles. Those miles narrowed the gap between YTD 2021 and 2020 to 128 miles. Last year on this date I rode 21.78 miles which accounts for closing the gap. So far I have biked each day in June.
Finally a day without a big threat of rain but as I write this to the north of Cleveland a mass of rain shows on the radar. Supposedly this will come to the south. During my bike ride wind was strong which helped me get to Roman Forest and hindered my return to the south. What the weather conditions looked like: start 86 (76% humidity, 77.5 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 14 mph; finish 86 (71% humidity, 75.5 dew point), overcast, wind S 15 mph gusts 24 mph. Those 24 mph gusts took a toll on my legs and average speed while I rode south to finish at 2:18 PM.
I’m not going to say too much about the bike ride and let the video speak for itself. I used the Drift Ghost XL camera to record most of today’s bike ride. I wanted to get more practice using it because on last Monday’s bike ride on the Spring Creek Greenway I thought the camera was recording but wasn’t. I pushed the record button but held it too long and the camera went to “settings” instead.
