When the smoke cleared, Houston shop gets lucky after smash-and-grab
www.bicycleretailer.com
Fog comes to the war against smash-and-grabs. With mixed results. MISSOURI CITY, Texas (BRAIN) — A smoke deterrent didn’t prevent a smash-and-grab at a Houston area bike shop early Sunday morning, but it clearly gave retailer Fred Rebollido some notoriety after a local TV news report about the incident.
"The piece aired (Wednesday night) at 6 o’clock, and then it re-aired (Thursday morning), then we threw it up on Facebook, so I’m getting inundated with calls," said Rebollido, who owns Sugar Cycles in Missouri City. "I got some guy trying to sell me 3M (security) film for the glass."
After being hit twice by smash-and-grab breakins in the past year, Rebollido followed the lead of another victimized bike shop nearby and had a motion-activated …

The city’s bike rental service has shown consistent growth during the past two years, despite the challenges presented by COVID.
Officials say much of the increase is attributable to the addition of electric bikes — or ebikes — which are an attractive option for pedalers who don’t want to work up a sweat during their ride.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission awards $2.84 million in Recreational Trail Grants to Texas communities
By Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission | www.ntxe-news.com
Austin, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved $2.84 million dollars in grants to fund 18 motorized and non-motorized recreational trail-related projects across the state. The National Recreational Trails Fund (NRTF) funds recreational trail construction, renovation and acquisition. The grants are funded from a portion of the federal gas tax generated by gasoline purchases for off-road motorcycles and four-wheelers. Thirty percent of the total NRTF grants must be earmarked for motorized recreational trails, while another 30 percent must be spent on non-motorized trail projects. The remaining 40 percent is discretionary.
Several projects funded in previous years were completed under budget and four were cancelled, creating an additional $700,000 available for re-allocation this year. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has been utilizing the re-allocated funds for trail improvement projects in state parks. The result is a total of $4.3 million dollars in federal funding available to fund eligible trail construction projects.
Projects awarded funding are listed in alphabetical order by county below: …
