Bear Claw Sub, New Bolt, No Rain, Strong Wind
Weather radar showed some rain in the area but I held to a rule I have: no rain go biking. Good thing I did. No rain though in Woodridge Forest for a half mile or more a light drizzle fell. With the sky looking okay I kept riding. The weather forecast mentioned rain but I figured to bike as far as I could.
As it turned out I biked the entire route I had planned. It went north and then northwest to McQueen Road where I turned around to ride back to Kingwood. I call this my “Kingwood – FM1314 NW to McQueen Road” route. On the way to McQueen Road the nice tailwind assisted but after turning I fought the wind all the way to Oakhurst. My legs needed a short recovery so I stopped at the Valero store on FM 1314 at Sorters Road for about 5 minutes.
All of this started at 10:55 AM when I rode out on my Lynskey R300 bike. I covered 41.35 miles which gets me in range of a 200 mile week if the rain stays away. The week stands at 152.85 miles. With two potential biking days it looks possible. I finished the ride at 2:32 PM.
On the way to McQueen Road my timing looked too late to stop at Pat’s Donuts on the return leg so I stopped early. I asked for an apple fritter but they were out. My next choice was a cinnamon roll, non of those either. The lady suggested a bear claw so I got that. It tasted good with apple filling which I didn’t know it would have. This powered me to McQueen Road and into the stiff headwind back to the southeast. Photos from Pat’s.
Yesterday I received the new Wahoo Elemnt Bolt V2 bike computer and this was its maiden voyage today. It worked great as I have it setup. I need to add colors for the power ranges to go along with the BPM colors.
I set a 3rd fastest time on a segment along FM 1314. Later I learned about losing a “Local Legend” on another route.
