Midland – Sterling City: The horizon is moving
Friday May 7, 2021, 74 miles (119 km) – Total so far: 596 miles (959 km) Probably the longest day of the trip in terms of mileage, but there have been harder ones. I was worried about two lanes and no shoulders in the Midland traffic, but then remembered that it’s 7:30 AM on a Saturday; there is no traffic. The day started with a crosswind, edging ever so gently into a quartering wind with a piece behind me. I ate some real estate, averaging just under 13 mph for the day. It was up into the 90’s under a fireball sun.

Saturday May 8, 2021, 66 miles (106 km) – Total so far: 662 miles (1,065 km) I took a detour from the route to visit the Aviator Wind Project, on a wild mesa northwest of Water Valley. Zach Speary, the site manager for CMS Energy, was gracious enough to take part of his Mother’s Day to drive me around this vast facility. There’s lots to tell, but I’d like to give Zach and the folks from CMS the chance to look at what I write to make sure I get the story straight. In the meantime, a placeholder of photos from the day.
