Green Conduit, A Bianchi Picture, Biking Out and Back to McQueen Road
The bike ride started at 10:34 AM after I finished watching stage 3 of the Giro d’Italia. Wanting to get the week off to a good start I chose my “Kingwood – FM1314 NW to McQueen Road” tweaking the beginning to add a mile to the distance. I rode my Canyon Endurace CF SLX bike 41.87 miles finishing at 1:58 PM.
Weather is edging closer to summer like with warmer temperature and higher humidity. Conditions: start 82 (75% humidity, 73.5 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 8 mph; finish 86 (67% humidity, 73.7 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 13 mph. The pesky wind helped me ride to McQueen Road and hindered my ride back to Kingwood.
I passed Pat’s Donuts on the way to McQueen Road and the return trip but did not stop for an apple fritter. Will power!
As I rode NW on FM 1314 I noticed a storage yard with a lot of green coiled underground conduit. I don’t remember seeing this on my previous ride on this route. I didn’t stop then but on the way back no traffic on the main lanes so I crossed over and took this photo. As I took the photo a man inside the fence asked what I was doing. We tried to talk but the traffic noise was too loud. He motioned for me to meet hm at the gate where a crew worked replacing a mangled old gate and some fencing. He came out to the shoulder and we talked. He works for Tachus, an internet service provider, and the all of the conduit is for installing fiber optic cable in Kingwood and surround areas. He showed me a picture of his Bianchi road bike. I learned the reason for replacing the gate was two big trucks broke in and stole some equipment. I gave him a Texbiker business card.
According to Strava I achieved a second fastest time for a segment on FM 1314.
