Less Than A Mile When Trouble Hit Today’s Bike Ride
Less than a mile after starting a problem arrived. A flat rear tire. As the video shows I aired both tires up on the Lynskey R300 before starting the bike ride. The tires felt a little soft so I thought adding air was a good idea. Maybe it was and saved me from a flat farther into the bike ride. I turned around and rode the Lynskey about half way home to save time and cleat wear. The other half I walked. Back home I began the fixing the flat, removed the tube, found the hole, inspected the tire for the cause and found nothing. The patch kit glue was in good shape and the patch went on accurately and stuck. Aired the the tube to test and all looked good. Back inside the tire I aired the tube up and put away all of the tools. The tire was nice and firm the rest of the ride.
The first attempted ride started at 12:00 PM and the encore at 12:47 PM. The route didn’t change, “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood”, heading north. By the 3:31 PM finish I biked 36.29 miles. A good way to begin the week. I didn’t ride yesterday and my legs felt rested today. Last week I rode 145.06 miles but I plan on 200+ miles this week. I am 37 miles behind YTD 2020 and want to make up the difference. April miles are 562.91, closing in on my 600 mile goal.
Today’s weather was much better than yesterday. It was cool and deary yesterday which is why I didn’t feel like biking. The normal temperatures for today are 79.9 and 57. When I got up this morning it was 47 but I was optimistic once I saw the sun coming through the windows. I watched the Tour of The Alps while waiting on it to warm up. Weather at the start and finish: start 69 (39% humidity, 43.4 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind E 8 mph; finish 74 (36% humidity, 45.1 dew point), partly cloudy, wind variable 5 mph. Continuing my optimism I wore shorts, a long sleeve jersey, and a windbreaker jacket. When I came back home to fix the flat I almost replaced the jacket with a short sleeve jersey but didn’t. I wasn’t too hot during the bike ride.
I built my average speed up to 14.2 mph and held it until I returned to Kings Manor and Kingwood. The light wind let me keep a good pace.
