85 Degree Side Trip – Bike Ride to Roman Forest
Beginning this post without mentioning the weather would be wrong. Blue sky, 77 degrees rising to 85 by the finish, what more could I ask for? After watching two bike races (Volta Ciclista a Catalunya and the E3 Saxo) I began today’s bike ride at 11:50 AM and finished at 4:05 PM. This is longer than usual because I stopped in Woodbranch to visit with a friend. To add to my mileage for the week I rode the “New Caney – Roman Forest – Valley Ranch” plus the side trip for a total of 41.86 miles. This put the week’s total at 179 miles. With 2 potential biking days left in the week I should make this a 200+ mile week. I am only 9 miles behind last year’s mileage on this date; 1,965 versus 1,974.
Weather conditions: start 77 (45% humidity, 53.6 dew point), fair, wind E 12 mph; finish 85 (30% humidity, 50 dew point), a few clouds, wind SE 10 mph. I wore shorts, a long sleeve jersey, and a short sleeve jersey. I probably could’ve left one of the jerseys at home but it’s still March. I rode my Lynskey R300 bike today.
Strava labeled this ride as harder than my usual effort. I agree with the wind contributing to the hardness.
Using the Drift camera on the Lynskey is not easy so I used the GoPro Hero 7 Black in the handheld mode. USPS delivered a mount for the Drift camera that should solve that problem on both my Canyon and Lynskey bikes. I will test it on tomorrow’s bike ride.
