200 Mile Week, Big Inflated Turkeys, Other Cyclists
After watching a cyclocross race from Belgium I started today’s ride at 9:25 AM. My Canyon Endurace and I headed out on the usual Saturday route, “Atascocita – FM 2100 – Walden” needing 25 miles to make it another 200 mile week. I accomplished that by biking 31.48 miles. The week now totals 206.76 miles and November totals 410.32 miles, 50 miles over my goal for the month. Year to date I biked 8,587 miles. This is the second 200 mile week in a row.
Today marked the 9th time biking this route in 2020. The route came into existence because of the construction on FM 2100 blocking my previous ride north to Huffman. All 9 rides happened on my Canyon Endurace bike.
One of the things special about Saturday bike rides on this route is seeing other cyclists. In addition to cyclists today I saw a number of houses with a large inflated brown turkey. I forgot to count them but it might have been 8 or more. A number of cyclists passed me riding the opposite direction. I think most of them are in today’s video.
It’s hard to believe the November weather so far. We need rain but very little fell during November. We are approaching drought conditions in counties surrounding Houston and soon in Houston too if none arrives soon. No rain is good for biking though. I dressed warmer than I needed to but I survived. I wore shorts, long sleeve jersey, and a short sleeve jersey. I should’ve replicated what I wore yesterday, leaving the long sleeve jersey off. Weather at the 9:25 AM start and 11:49 AM finish: start 76 (91% humidity, 72.9 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 9 mph; finish 82 (76% humidity, 73.9 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 8 mph gusts 17 mph. The wind picked up during the bike ride. I thought it was strong biking on Fairlake Lane and Old Atascocita Road going east. After making the u-turn east of FM 2100 the wind wasn’t as bad until I rode west over Lake Houston without much to break it up.
Below is the bike ride summary data from Golden Cheetah. My legs felt good today. I got my average speed to 14.1 mph during the return to Kingwood until I waited to turn left from FM 1960 onto Atascocita Shores Drive. The bolt computer shows no mercy calculating average speed.
With 200 miles for the week Sunday will be a rest day. Before November began I did not expect to get this far into the month without renewing my Zwift subscription. The weather will turn one of these days. Next week the highs will drop to the 70’s from the 80’s this week according to Space City Weather.
If the second halve of November biking matched the first half I could bike 800 miles which I have never done in November. Below is y monthly goal standings.

I am still learning how to edit the background music in the ride video. One spot today is louder than I wanted but it is when I am not talking very much. Today’s background music is Electric Dreams by Scott Buckley licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0.
