Blew Past October’s Mileage Goal As The Weather Cooled
It took awhile to get today’s bike ride started. While waiting for the temperature to warm up I watched stage 11 of the Vuelta a Espana. I hoped it would warm enough that leg warmers weren’t necessary. The bike ride began at 12:32 PM and finished at 2:49 PM. I left the leg warmers at home. But I wore shorts, long sleeve jersey, and a wind breaker jacket as I rode the Canyon Endurace bike on a slightly different “Atascocita – Walden – FM 2100” route. The difference came from not riding the longer loop on Cross Country Drive in Walden. When I started the ride I was going to skip Walden altogether but I wanted to ride at least 30 miles and adding the shorter section through Walden was just enough with today’s ride coming in at 30.51 miles.
Those miles accomplished two things: 104.23 miles for the week and 822.29 miles for October. The daily average for October was 26.53 miles, including 6 no ride days. They also improved the year to date to 8,177 miles. This is the most miles in a month since July when I rode 923 miles. I exceeded my 615 mile goal for October by 207 miles. One goal I am behind on is indoor cycling for the year: the goal is 800 miles and I am at 542 miles. With the arrival of November weather I probably will work on the indoor cycling goal. The last time I rode indoors was back on April 4th on Zwift. Recaps of the month and year to date comparison of bike rides.
According to the Golden Cheetah program I spent 49% of the riding time in power zones 3 through 7. Strava says the ride was consistent with my usual efforts. While the wind was light at times it seemed like a headwind was trying to slow me down. I built my overall average speed up to 14.2 mph by the time I rode north on W. Lake Houston Parkway back into Kingwood.
Weather conditions: start 70 (60% humidity, 55.7 dew point), a few clouds, wind N calm; finish 72 (52% humidity, 53.9 dew point), a few clouds, wind variable 4 mph.
