Getting Close To My Month’s Goal, Strava Segments, Waning Summer
No bike race to watch today with the Giro d’Italia on a rest day. Tomorrow two races take place: Giro and Vuelta a Espana. Hopefully they don’t delay my bike ride too much. I started today’s bike ride at 10:40 AM. The bike for the ride was my Canyon Endurace which is getting close to 20,000 miles. I might get there by the end of the month. Biking 37.33 miles today moved me closer to that and my goal for October.
I only need to ride another 65 miles to reach my goal. Unless the weather turns ugly I should do it. Counting the three days I didn’t ride I averaged 28.9 miles per day, 9 miles more than I need. I am 172 miles ahead of schedule.
Summer weather is waning but still hot enough to bring sweat out of my body. I wore a short sleeve jersey and arm sleeves which got wet from sweating. Weather for today’s bike ride: start 81 (87% humidity, 77.2 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S calm; finish 85 (79% humidity, 77.4 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SE 10 mph. The wind wasn’t a problem today as I had my average speed up to 14.7 mph for several miles before stopping at the Circle K on FM 1314 at Sorters Road. For some reason while I ate a Clif bar it went down to 14.6 mph and bounced up to 14.7 and down to 14.6 until I entered Kingwood where slower riding lowered it to 14.3 mph when I finished at 1:39 PM. As I walked my bike inside the house at the end of the ride I heard rain hitting the fabric patio cover but it didn’t last long.
The route I chose was the “New Caney – Gene Campbell Road”. This was the 14th time this year for the route, 10 times on my Canyon Endurace and 4 times on my Lynskey R300. Next time I should ride the Lynskey.
The first ride this year on the route was on my birthday back in February.
Looking at the ride data in the Golden Cheetah program shows these results. 55% of the ride I rode in power zones 2, 3, and 4. 92% of the ride I was in heart rate zones 2 and 3. I haven’t figured out what the W’bal zones are yet.
Strava reports the ride was consistent with my usual efforts. No personal records either. Only 8 segments over the route. I need to create one. Looking at the Gene Campbell Rd segment the best time is held by Tom Plank at 4:58 versus my 7:53 today. Other segments show similar time differences. I need to ride faster is what it boils down too.
