Summer Like Bike Ride Through Oakhurst – Valley Ranch
Summer poked its way back into fall with 92 degrees by the end of today’s bike ride through Oakhurst and Valley Ranch before returning to Kingwood. Starting at 1:25 PM after getting home from church on my Canyon Endurace bike I wanted to ride at least 28 miles and ended up biking 29.07 miles. I fell 29 miles short of a 200 mile week because of not biking two days. A summary of the week’s rides.
I got closer to my 615 mile goal for October with today’s miles. Almost halfway to my goal after 9 days of biking out of 11.
During the ride I passed a couple of “casual” bikers along Kingwood Drive with the man riding a nice Fat Tire bike. Later on Briar Berry Lane a cyclist passed going the opposite direction. My camera finger was too slow to catch either of them.
Weather during the ride: start 90 (60% humidity, 74.5 dew point), a few clouds, wind SW 7 mph. Finish 92 (57% humidity, 74.8 dew point), a few clouds, wind S 8 mph. Though the heat was here it didn’t feel quite as hot as it would in July or August.
Another powerful ride with my average speed getting to 14.3 mph before settling to 14.1 by the 3:35 PM finish. After the ride I watched replays of the Giro d’Italia stage 9 and Gent-Wevelgem. both of those races suffered from rain with Stage 9 temperature at the mountain top finish at 9 C. The winner of the stage was shaking during the TV interview with a jacket on. I can’t come close to their power and speed but I enjoy watching and the scenery.
Strava alerted me to a new personal record on “Wildwood” segment and a third on the “Woodridge Forest Straightaway” segment. I don’t get these very often.
