Nearly Overdosed On Bike Races, Bike Friendly Weather But It Might Change
I almost suffered biking racing overload before starting today’s bike ride. While waiting for the temperature to warm up I watched the women’s and men’s De Brabantse Pijl (1.Pro) from Belgium and stage 5 of the Giro d’Italia. I don’t know how to pronounce the first race’s name. After all of that racing I got ready to ride but not race. I rolled the Canyon Endurace down the driveway and pressed “Start” at 11:14 AM. I chose the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” heading north.
Evidence is starting to show that while I like the temperature to be in the 90’s I ride faster when it is in the low 80’s. Weather during the ride today: start 81 (63% humidity, 67.5 dew point), partly cloudy, wind N 6 mph. Finish 85 (55% humidity, 67.5 dew point), partly cloudy, wind N 8 mph. With the wind not too strong I made good time to Tavola pushing my average speed to 14 mph. On the way back to Kingwood it increased to 14.5 mph partially with the help of the tailwind. While on the way to Tavola my speed varied from 16 to 18 mph but on the way back I bumped it up to 17 to 19 mph.
It was warm enough for a short sleeve jersey and arm sleeves even in the occasional shade. The sky was solid blue as I rode north and marbled with white clouds looking to the south.
I logged 36.25 miles moving my week’s total to 106.39 miles. If Hurricane Delta doesn’t interrupt biking reaching 200 miles for the week looks possible. Delta may stir things up Friday to early Saturday based on the current forecast but landfall probably will be east of here. Month’s goal standing after today’s ride.
