Sheriff’s Office 10-mile bike ride raises awareness for childhood cancer

EDINBURG, Texas — As National Childhood Cancer Awareness month comes to a close, the community teamed up for the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office bike ride in support of the cause.
Cyclists collectively traveled hundreds of miles during the 10-mile ride.
“Today I’m going to go on a race and I’m going to try to win the race for the people that have cancer,†John De La Rosa, who participated with his dad, said.

Construction of a 12′ wide concrete hike and bike trail. Drainage, retaining wall, fencing, and railing improvements are provided at various locations along the length of the project. Additionally, signage for an on-street portion of the bike trail. The work includes, but is not limited to, mobilization, preparation of right-of-way, traffic control, approx. 2,552 SY 5" thick reinforced concrete pavement, 21 LF of 4′ by 3′ reinforced concrete box, 5,362 SF of retaining wall, and 1,116 LF 8′ tall chain link fence.
8-year-old on bike hit by van in Sherman

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – A Sherman boy is injured after getting hit by a van while was riding his bike.
Sherman police say the call came in just before 4 p.m. Saturday.
Police say the 8-year-old was riding his bike in Martin Luther King Jr. Park and road out of the driveway, when he was hit by a van.
He was taken to the hospital with severe road rash and a cut on the back of his head.
Police say he was alert and responsive, and his injuries are non-life-threatening.
