Missing Watts Found, No 20% Climbs Here, 6 Foot Roosters
After watching stage 17 of the Tour de France where the closing kilometers went up a mountain with over 20% gradients I chose a much flatter route to the north. Aboard my Canyon Endurace bike at 11:08 AM I headed out on the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route biking 35.44 miles when I finished at 1:52 PM. Those miles moved my week total to 112.56 miles.
Although it was 90 degrees at the start it didn’t feel that hot thanks to reasonable humidity (for Houston anyway) and dew point. Wind was calm picking up to 10 mph from the north by the time I finished. The calm wind held mostly while I rode north to Tavola and then I enjoyed a helpful tailwind on the trip back to Kingwood. I still managed to sport some salt stains on my bike shorts and arm sleeves. According to Space City Weather the temperatures might cool a few degrees if a front makes it here the next couple of days.
Yesterday I mentioned the power output reading seemed to be less than what I expected. I checked the Favero Assiomo app and found a setting to send 2X values to bike computers that don’t make the change internally. As a result today’s power readings look closer to what I expected. For example:
- August 5th on this route average power 119 watts, max power 443 watts
- Today’s ride average power 106 watts, max power 464 watts
The August 5th ride used my Wahoo Bolt computer and today was the Lezyne Macro Plus with the 2X setting for power.
My mileage goal for September standings.
A cushion of almost 115 miles puts me in a good position to reach my goal and then some. As of today I need to bike about 212 more miles.
