Roads and Scenery Look Different In Reverse Bike Ride
Due to a time constraint I started today’s bike ride at 9:00 AM, unheard of for a weekday bike ride. I am on a kick of finding route variety and today I rode the “Oakhurst – Valley Ranch” one for the 3rd time in 2020. The last time I did it was March 29th. To get a few extra miles I added some streets to the early portion and around the 24 mile point. While the roads and streets for part of the route are no strangers riding them in reverse gives another view and awareness of the road surface differences lanes can have. One side can be smooth and the other bumpy. Those extra streets resulted in 30.12 miles today, about 3 miles more than the other two rides.
My status on reaching the 800 mile goal for August is improving with a total of 219.42 miles. The week total stands at 188.77 miles making a 200+ mile week possible with 2 biking days left. I am averaging 31.35 miles per day versus the 25.8 miles per day to reach my 800 mile goal. That’s 5.55 miles above, pointing to potentially exceeding my goal if the current pace can be rode to the end of the month. Weather may throw a wrench in it or help. So far the weather has been on my side.
With the hour early start the temperature was approaching 90 degrees but the wind was light. I filled the CamelBak with ice and water and at the 11:12 AM finish there was still ice left unlike rides the last few days. Weather conditions: start 88 (78% humidity, 80.5 dew point), a few clouds, wind N 4. Finish 94 (67% humidity, 81 dew point), a few clouds, wind S 8 mph.
For the last few months when I ride the Canyon Endurace bike at random times during the ride the Wahoo cadence sensor and Favero Assioma power meter would lose connection with my Wahoo Bolt computer when the Bolt would pop up a message that it was pairing with my phone after I had paired them before starting the ride. The sensors would take about a minute to start sending or the Bolt get information. I wrote an email to Wahoo support and they gave me 3 things to try. I tried them before today’s bike ride and the problem didn’t happen.
Another problem has the GoPro Hero 7 Black camera freezing at random times during a bike ride. I put a different microSD card in it and today it didn’t freeze. Hopefully this fixes it.
