Work Around Construction Zone, GoPro Can’t Take Heat, Arm Sleeve Slippage
Planning today’s bike ride I decided to go on a route I haven’t been on since July 30th, 2019. I ride most of the roads and streets on other routes but not in this combination. Starting at 10:38 AM riding the Canyon Endurace bike I began the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman Extended” route. To get through the construction work on FM 2100 south of FM 1960 I reversed the roads in the “extended” portion of the route going north of FM 1960 to FM 2100 and south on FM 2100 where I normally ride north. The construction on FM 2100 takes place on the east side of the north bound side while the west side remains clear of barriers and barrels. The video shows the work area. I will probably use this route often until the construction clears the shoulder riding north.
The route covered 34.08 miles helping me get back on track to reach my 800 mile goal for August. I need to average 25.8 miles per day and with today being the 4th I need to be at 103.2 miles. Today’s ride puts me at 108.44 miles so I am ahead of where I need to be. A cushion comes in handy when the weather keeps me off the bike.
August typical weather is in place. Rain tends to be in the late afternoon to evening well after my bike ride. Today’s weather at the start and 1:14 Pm finish: start 90 (70% humidity, 79.2 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind W 7 mph. 95 (57% humidity, 77 dew point), a few clouds, wind W 6 mph. The light wind is appreciated.
For some reason my left arm sleeve kept sliding down my upper arm. I think the elastic is stretched plus the jersey I wore today has tight sleeves making it hard to tuck the arm sleeve under like I normally do. I have a new pair of arm sleeves and it looks like its time to replace the old ones.
The new GoPro Hero 7 black froze today when I wanted to take video. I believe the heat from being in the sun is the cause. Now that I know it is still a problem stopping and pulling out the battery before it freezes will be on my mind as I ride. Picking the time and place may be a problem.
Some data from the ride.
- average heart rate 128 bps
- max heart rate 152 bpm
- average cadence 67 rpm
- max cadence 106 rpm
- average power 95 watts
- max power 482 watts
Many Strava segments on this route.
