Not Quite Average Yet in August – Splendora Bike Ride
Wheels down at 10:06 AM and my Lynskey R300 bike started the bike ride on the “Kingwood – Splendora – Kingwood” route. My goal for August is 800 miles and today I biked 43.71 miles. With yesterday’s ride my total for August is 74.36 miles. I need to average 25.8 miles per day to reach that goal and my average now is 24.79 miles so I need to make up for missing August 1st to get back on track. A 200+ mile week will help.
Today marks the 6th time riding today’s route this year. 5 times I rode my Lynskey R300 bike and 1 time my Canyon Endurace bike. The average distance for those 6 rides is 43.16 miles putting today’s ride slightly above average.
Finishing at 1:49 PM the weather was warming up and some clouds dotted the sky. Humidity was lower than last week as was the dew point making it feel not so hot even though the temperature was 94. With the light wind I was able to ride at a good pace getting my overall average speed up to 14.3 mph on the way back to Kingwood. Overall weather conditions: start 86 (79% humidity, 78.5 dew point), a few clouds, wind W 7 mph. Finish 94 (54% humidity, 75.1 dew point), partly cloudy, wind NW 8 mph.
As I neared Splendora a funeral procession came towards me at the cemetery. I stopped and waited for the cars to enter before riding on. A Liberty County Constable motorcycle officer pulled up beside as I waited after he escorted everyone to the cemetery. There is a brief clip in the video.
My Strava activity page says today was harder than my usual efforts.
