Biking In The Rain Becoming The Norm Around Here
After yesterday’s rained out bike ride to the south I turned to the north for today’s ride. Starting at 10:28 AM after watching stage 2 of the Vuelta a Burgos on Flobikes.com I chose the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route riding 35.16 miles. Those miles moved July’s total to 850.06 miles putting even more over my 800 mile goal. The week now totals 83.67 miles. I will need some weather cooperation if I am going hit 200+ miles for the week. Today marks the 16th time to ride this route in 2020; 4 times on the Lynskey R300 counting today, and 12 times on the Canyon Endurace CF SLX.
Speaking of the weather, it started off sunny with friendly white puffy clouds dotting the sky. By the time I finished at 1:13 PM those puffy white clouds turned gray and wet over Kingwood as I biked in the rain the last two miles. Biking in the rain is becoming the norm around here. Don’t let the video thumbnail fool you about today’s bike ride. The closer I got to Kingwood the wetter the sky looked. The temperature dropped and the wind picked up. And I got wet, AGAIN! I thought I could get home before the rain caught me but that didn’t happen. Conditions at the start and finish: start 90 (72% humidity, 79.7 dew point), partly cloudy, wind S 7 mph. Finish 80 (89% humidity, 76.4 dew point), light rain, wind SW 16 mph gusts 27 mph.
Most of the route the wind was manageable but I felt the increased wind by the time I approached Kings Manor and into Kingwood. Strava reports my effort was harder than usual. Some data points:
- average heart rate 133 bpm
- maximum heart rate 160 bpm
- average cadence 76 rpm
- maximum cadence 101 rpm
- average power 74 watts
- maximum power 337 watts
