My Legs Rejoiced But Not Until Mile 19
When I set out on today’s bike ride at 10:04 AM the plan was to ride the “Kingwood to Ramsey Road – Huffman” route but when I reach FM 2100 my legs told me another route was necessary. So I changed to the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route and my legs rejoiced! I rode my Lynksey R300 bike today covering 33.01 miles. The week now totals 150.1 miles. With the weather forecast I may not be able to ride Saturday or Sunday which puts the 200+ miles this week in jeopardy. More about the upcoming weather later. 24 times I biked this route in 2020 making it the most frequently used route. 15 times on my Canyon Endurace and 9 times on my Lynskey R300. My month goal looms closer with 745.75 miles ridden leaving 55 miles to go. I don’t want to sound too assured but with a week left I should make it to the goal and beyond.
Now to the weather. Tropical storm Hanna out in the gulf moving towards the southern Texas coast brings rain into the picture. If and how much depends on where it comes ashore. According to Space City Weather “Tropical Storm Hanna to deliver a glancing blow to the Houston area” and biking might happen or not Saturday and Sunday. Time will tell.
Today the wind killed my legs while I biked from Kingwood and east to FM 2100. The PowerPod bike ride data charts shows how strong the headwind tortured them. The red arrow points at the wind chart. Blue above the white line denotes a headwind and below a tailwind.
Riding east over Lake Houston I worked hard to maintain 12 to 13 mph. No more power in the legs caused me to alter the route as I wrote above. This doesn’t happen often.
Strava recognized my effort as being easier than my usual ride but it didn’t feel that way.
