Headwind, Tailwind Correction, Overcast Sky, Loop to Huffman
I rode south again today following what I call the ” Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route. Starting at 11:07 AM riding my Canyon Endurace CF SLX bike I felt better about riding through the bridge repair section on W. Lake Houston Parkway at the San Jacinto river. The walkway is closed on the northbound bridge but several people are walking on the southbound walkway even though my request to the City of Houston to mow the brush at both ends was rejected. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone took a Weedeater or brush cutter and cleared them out.
Today’s bike ride covered 34.39 miles, a little longer than usual as I changed the early part of the route. The week now totals 70.45 miles, May stands at 390.89 miles towards my 660 mile goal, and year to date I biked 2890 road miles and 542 Zwift miles. I rode this route 16 times so far in 2020. An interesting chart from Golden Cheetah shows the breakdown of rides this year by distance and bike. Today’s route occupies the largest block with my 2 bikes.
In today’s video not many bikers appeared so I included some other people. As I rode on the WLHP bridge I took video clips, The ride south is wider than the ride north. Watch the video to check what was going on around me.
The blue sky left and overcast clouds moved in as the wind shifted to the SE. At the beginning of the ride I felt a couple of rain drops but that was all. Rain might drop in later in the day. With the clouds I wimped out and wore a long sleeve jersey, short sleeve jersey, and shorts. What it was like while I biked: start 79 (74% humidity, 69.6 dew point), overcast, wind SE 17 mph. Finish 83 (66% humidity, 70.1 dew point), overcast, wind SE 15 mph. The wind was tough getting to FM 2100 and Old Atascocita Road. I struggled to get my average speed to 13 mph. Once I moved to FM 2100 northbound the tailwind helped me boost the average speed to 13.5 mph until I got back into Kingwood.
Yesterday in my daily biking news I included an article about Tailwind Bicycles closing on May 17th, moving to Rustic Woods in Kingwood and changing their name to Kingwood Bicycles. Today’s ride went in front of Tailwind Bicycles so I decided to stop and ask about the changes. It turns out Community Impact got the story all wrong. Tailwind Bicycles is not closing. One of the people at Tailwind is leaving to open Kingwood Bicycles on Rustic Woods Drive. Nice to know.
