Skip The Leg Warmers Bike Ride To Huffman and Back
By the time I got home from church the weather warmed up to the low 70’s. My standard for a warm bike ride is higher than some people for but today was good enough to skip leg warmers and get out on the road.
Starting at 12:49 PM I selected the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route and biked 32.63 miles under a nice blue sky. While the temperature stayed in the low 70’s I chose to wear shorts, a long sleeve thermal jersey, and a jacket. This kept me comfortable during the bike ride with the only chilly part coming when I rode west over Lake Houston on FM 1960 with the wind picking up the chill from the lake water. Weather while I biked: start 72 (42% humidity, 47.5 dew point), fair, wind SW 14 mph gusts 20 mph. Finish 73 (36% humidity, 44.2 dew point), fair, wind SW 10 mph. The low dew points and humidity meant very dry air. While I sweated I didn’t really notice it until after the ride and I took off the long sleeve jersey.
Wind required extra effort on the way south to Walden but once I turned to the east the tailwind helped me get to Huffman. From Huffman biking west the headwind challenged me but it was only about 5 miles and then I turned to the north with the wind coming from the left rear quarter, sometimes helping but not hindering so much.
Other people enjoyed the break in the cool winter weather along the route. Town Center Park hosted a number of booths with people walking around. I returned home at 3:23 PM.
Monday looks promising for another outside bike ride with sun and more low 70’s.
