Zwift SZR Beginners Fast Paced Bike Ride
A contrast in different rides: yesterday a big mountain, today a fast paced mostly flat ride. When I looked at the ride description it said “this is a slow ride for beginners on Zwift which means we ride at 1.3-1.6 w/kg for most of the ride.” My average speed came in at 21.2 mph which means fast in my book. Regarding the 1.3-1.6 w/kg, the times I kept in this range I fell to the back of the peloton and I increased to 2.3+ w/kg to catch up.
5 laps around the London course for a total of 21.08 miles including a 3.5 mile lead in with a total riding time of 59:38 resulted in the average speed I mentioned above. 236 fellow Zwitfers rode the course today. One climb per lap hit 6% but not a long one. I gained lost places going up the hill and slowed a couple of times to avoid crossing through the fence. The last 2 kilometers the fence came off and the pace increased leaving me to pedal harder to maintain my position.
Strava recorded three new personal records while Zwift showed five. I moved up to Level 11 and unlocked the London Classique. I now have the digital camo kit in my garage.
The reason I went Zwifting today was the cold weather outside: mid 50’s and sunny, below my 60 degree tolerance level. The cool weather will continue with a chance of rain on Friday meaning another opportunity to be on the smart trainer in a Zwift world.
