Blue Sky Bike Ride North to SH 242 (and back)
Space City Weather in their email weather forecast today kind of went out on the limb when they said today probably would be the last 80 degree high for a while, maybe for the year. A couple of weeks ago they made a similar statement about 90 degrees and then we got a 90 degree day. I hope the same thing happens for 80 degrees because I am not a fan of cold weather, cold meaning below 60 degrees.
Leaving home at 11:17 AM I rode north on my “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route. The blue sky replaced the many clouds on yesterday’s ride. This route produced 36.7 miles, moving the week’s total to 104.32 miles and November to 174.2 miles. My goal for November is 460 miles; 360 on the road and 100 in Zwift virtual land.
With all the blue sky this is what the weather numbers looked like during the bike ride: start 78 (64% humidity, 64.5 dew point), a few clouds, wind SE 14 mph. Finish 79 (58% humidity, 63.1 dew point), a few clouds, wind SE 10 mph. I chose to wear shorts, long sleeve jersey topped with a short sleeve jersey. This combo worked out just right for comfort. With the warm weather I stopped at the Mobil station in New Caney at FM 1485 to refill my bottle.
It has been awhile since I stopped and took photos during a ride so at the Woodridge Forest Pool I took these. The blue box on the pole is a free library.
Biking north the wind helped me. At the turn around I wondered if pay back time biking south back to Kingwood would happen. But I improved my overall average speed from 13.7 mph to 14.4 mph biking south. It stayed there until I turned right from Kellington onto the frontage road north of Kingwood Drive where it fell back to 14.3 mph.
Thursday the weather will change. I think I will have time to ride but maybe not. Rain is possible.
