Uncharacteristic Humidity After 48 Degree Night Bike Ride
When I woke up this morning and checked the weather on my phone the 48 degrees surprised me. I knew the forecast called for cooler temperatures overnight but not quite that low. By the time I started the ride at 11:49 AM it warmed up to 76 degrees but I still wore a long sleeve jersey under the short sleeve jersey. Only after finishing the bike ride did I realize how low the humidity was, 35% falling to 30% at the end. These numbers just don’t happen very often when you are 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico in Houston.
Weather during the bike ride: start 76 (35% humidity, 46.1 dew point), a few clouds, wind NE 7 mph. Finish 77 (30% humidity, 43.2 dew point), a few clouds, wind NE 8 mph. I waited some to allow the temperature to go up some to avoid over dressing. My cool temperature threshold of 60 degrees can cause me to layer up when waiting solves the problem.
Choosing the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route after Zwifting yesterday I biked 32.94 miles rolling over real asphalt and concrete. October now totals 546.22 miles towards the 700 mile goal; 154 miles to go! Year to date stands at 6,792 miles, 8 miles away from my goal for 2019. When I added Zwift to my activities I adjusted my October goal for road biking miles from 700 to 650 and added a 50 mile goal for “virtual riding”. The 546.22 combines my actual riding for those two goals.
Biking to Huffman in the headwind put my legs to a test. The wind wasn’t that strong as far as mph but it felt much stronger out in the open. The fan blowing on me while Zwift is no comparison.
Relive ‘Atascocita to Huffman Post 48 Degrees’
Wednesday weather repeats most of Tuesday’s weather. Big weather change arrives Friday, maybe.
