I Couldn’t Stomach Not Biking
After not biking since Tuesday due to a stomach virus it got better and I hit the road today. I understand a little better about the professionals dropping out of a race with digestive distress. It is not comfortable. Four days of cramps puts riding down the priority list.
Waiting for the temperature to get out of the low 60’s I watched a cyclocross race on GCN before getting ready and rolling the wheels at 10:11 AM. I chose the “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route because I ride there most Saturdays and it is easy to remember. Normally I expect to see many other bikers but with the later start I knew most of them finished before I started even though sunrise comes later. I saw a few and the largest group of three I forgot to turn the GoPro to record; 4 days off and I get rusty.
I didn’t expect too much from today’s ride due the stomach problems but according to Strava my effort was consistent with my usual activity. I did learn that if you don’t use a heart rate monitor this statement does not appear in the activity.
Weather the bike ride to Huffman and back: start 77 (75% humidity, 68.8 dew point), partly cloudy, wind SE 4 mph. Finish 86 (69% humidity, 74.4 dew point), partly cloudy, wind W 7 mph. As I say in the video a few more degrees would have been better but by the time I finished it warmed up. Arm sleeves at the start helped stave off the chill while riding in the shade. The all blue sky changed and clouds moved in spoiling the blue panorama.
I lost ground on reaching my goal of 700 miles for the month but today’s 34.64 miles boosted October to 459.91 miles leaving 240 miles to go. Only 73 miles left to reach my 6,800 mile goal for the year; more October, November, and December biking left.
Sunday looks good but Monday another one of those cold fronts passes through with 80% chance of rain. Tuesday I probably ride again.
