Falling Temperature Bike Ride
Typically on Monday I ride to the north but today I changed that and rode to the south and east on what I call the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route. I took a rest day on Sunday (yesterday) and the legs felt rested. I biked 33.06 miles boosting October’s total to 210 miles, 30% of the way to the 700 mile goal.
For several days Space City Weather talked about the “cold” front, which I think turned out to be a “cool” front, arriving today. At the 10:27 AM start of the ride a comfortable 82 degrees awaited as I rolled out. The stout 10 mph wind wind from the north felt cool and it stayed that way until I rode west over Lake Houston approaching the west shore when the wind picked up to 14 mph and felt several degrees cooler. The sky lost some of the clouds and blue spots appeared marking the change as the actual front came through. Riding north took extra effort to overcome the headwind but my legs put out the required effort keeping my average speed at 13.5 mph. Weather during the bike ride: start 82 (80% humidity, 74.7 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind N 10 mph. Finish 79 (83% humidity, 73.2 dew point), overcast, wind N 14 mph.
At the beginning of the ride the PowerPod would not connect with the Wahoo Elemnt computer even though it worked perfectly on Saturday’s ride. I tried pushing the start button and the green LED blinked but no connection. After several attempts I pushed the button 5 times which turns it off and once more to start it up and then it connected to the Elemnt for the rest of the bike ride.
The bike ride recap video fills in the gaps from my writing.
The big piece of equipment in the thumbnail of the video blocked the road but traffic is light there.
Yesterday I setup a new Dell desktop computer because my old one was 4 years old and slow, especially editing video. When I installed SportTracks desktop version a big red notice popped up saying it would no longer be supported after 4/1/2020. I use the web version too but the desktop has some features the web version doesn’t. I am transitioning to the web version starting today, figuring out some features new to me.
Tuesday’s weather will still feature the cool front but not enough to keep me from riding.
