A new program, the bike patrol unit has been implemented at the Edinburg Police Department with three officers for special events. “As of now, we only going to be working special events such as carnivals, parades and concerts,” Ariel Benedict said. “But Edinburg fully intends to expand the program and make it a larger patrol unit, eventually to start being out in the community all hours of the day and night.” Officers are currently being cross trained with the International Mountain Bike Association to receive certification to be with the bike unit.
