Liberty County Wheel Dip Bike Ride
I dipped my Canyon wheels in Liberty County on today’s bike ride.. While biking the “May Park Community Center – Huffman” route I almost didn’t ride across the county line but decided to with the help of passing traffic keeping me from making the left turn onto Huffman-Eastgate Road. Also I wanted to be sure I biked at least 40 miles . I did ride 42.33 miles putting July total at 302.02 miles, 38% of the way to the 800 mile goal.
A heat advisory started at 1 PM and I tried to finish the ride by then but missed it by 43 minutes finishing at 1:43 PM. Weather during the bike ride: start 90 (71% humidity, 79.3 dew point), partly cloudy, wind SW 8 mph. Finish 95 (55% humidity, 76.3 dew point), partly cloudy, wind variable 6 mph. 90 at the 10:13 AM start is hot.
Another cyclist was out as we passed around 3.5 mile point in Bear Branch Village. I am guessing he was close to finishing while I was just starting.
Monday’s ride was almost 4 miles longer but only 6 minutes longer in time compared to today. The difference is the average speed: 13.6 mph today vs. 14.3 mph yesterday.
With the heat I stopped twice for ice and water at the Huffman Chevron. First time was before riding east on FM 1960 and the second was at 30.7 miles. At the second stop I took a 20 minute break to rest and eat the blueberry crisp Clif bar I brought. Sitting in the shade cooled me off but when I left it didn’t take long to get heated up.
Later today I will replace the Ultegra R8000 pedals with a new pair. I think this improve my pedal clipping and unclipping.
More hot weather on Wednesday but not much chance for rain. Biking is on the agenda.
