Cyclists, Tractor, Wind, Another 200+ Mile Week Bike Ride
I missed my planned 7:30 AM start time by 6 minutes rolling off at 7:36 AM on the “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route. I wanted to ride enough miles to push the week over the 200 mile mark and I succeeded biking 35.12 miles making the week’s total 209.06. June is up to 693.08 miles, 107 miles away from my goal. This is the 6th week in a row of 200+ miles.
The reason I wanted to start at this time was to catch other cyclists on the east side of Lake Houston or other places along the route. I saw some in Kingwood as I headed to Huffman and more along the way to FM 2100. Later on the way back several passed me as I rode on the trail parallel to W. Lake Houston Parkway. Overall I think there were 15 to 20 other cyclists, not as many as I expected still a respectful number. Some photos.
Weather during the bike ride: start 81 (88% humidity, 78 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 7 mph. Finish 87 (77% humidity, 79 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 14 mph 24 mph gusts. I didn’t realize the wind was that strong but there were times when I pedaled harder to keep my speed. Physical data points:
- average heart rate: 134 bps (77% of max)
- max heart rate: 155 bps (89% of max)
- average power output: 117 watts
- max power output: 441 watts
This was a two water bottle ride with the temperature and humidity. I stopped at the Chevron on FM 1960 and Atascocita Shores Drive on the way back. On the return ride I rode on the Atascocita Hike & Bike Trail from W. Lake Houston Parkway to Kings Park Way where I moved back to the streets. I finished the ride at 10:26 AM, 2 hours and 50 minutes after starting.
Sunday will be a rest day. I have biked 20 out of 22 days so in June. Also there is a chance of rain.
