PowerPod Returned to Normal? Summer Weather Asserts, Bike Ride
Out the door and wheels rolling at 9:58 AM as I set off on the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route. I added extra streets at the beginning to push the miles to 37.18 miles and the week’s total to 101.19 miles.
Summer weather is starting to assert itself: start 88 (76% humidity, 79 dew point), partly cloudy, wind SW 7 mph. Finish 94 (61% humidity, 79 dew point), partly cloudy, wind SW 7 mph. My choice of clothing: shorts, short sleeve jersey, and arm sleeves. The higher humidity is still not a problem for wearing the arm sleeves but salt deposits collect on the surface.
PowerPod update: at the suggestion of the supplier from their forum I connected the PP to the Isaac software to download the data for the two rides since I had the problem but no ride data was available. Then I did a reseton the PP, extracted a profile from a ride file before the problem and transferred that to the PP. On today’s bike ride I hoped that fixed the problem and it looks like it did. The power readings are back to what I expected. Next I need to connect to the Isaac software to see if the ride data is there. Power data for the two rides that didn’t record in the PP were recorded in the TCX file on the Wahoo Elemnt so I have that but not all of the other data the PP collects.
As I prepared to enter Tavola from Loop 494 I stopped and took these photos.
Normally there is no traffic here but as soon as I stopped to take these photos cars appeared out nowhere. I guess they wanted to see what I was doing.
Getting to Tavola was easier than getting back thanks to the tailwind going and the headwind returning.
As I rode through Tavola this lake catches my attention most times and today I took these photos.
Leaving Tavola I rode west on Roman Forest Blvd. to I-69/US59. The headwind riding south required more energy and I saw the watts from the PowerPod on the Elemnt screen. My legs were up to the challenge as I made the turn onto Valley Ranch Parkway. I stayed on the parkway and was deep in thought south of the Grand Parkway overpass when I heard my name and looked to my left quickly to see Ronnie Clark, another cyclist, riding north and yelled hello back as we passed.
Before that I stopped in New Caney at the Mobil station for ice and water to carry me to the end of the ride. With the heat the cold water tasted great.
During the ride I built my average speed up to 14.3 mph and held it there until around 31 mile point when it dropped to 14.2 mph as I entered Kings Manor and riding slower on the residential streets. It dropped to 14.0 mph by the time I finished the ride at 12:49 PM.
Thursday biking will be interesting as I ride around two different appointments. Weather looks like repeat of today.
