Wienerschnitzel, Grand Texas, 21 MPH Wind Bike Ride
Biking to SH 242 went easier with the help of a 15 mph tailwind. I chose the “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route and rode 38.23 miles, pushing May to 811.62 miles, and the week to 116.78 miles. This is the second month this year of 800+ miles.
The weather during the bike ride that started at 11:16 AM: start 84 (75% humidity), overcast, wind S 15 mph. Finish 87 (62% humidity), mostly cloudy, wind SE 15 mph gusts 21 mph. The sun stayed behind the clouds most of the ride but the headwind was out in force for the ride south from SH 242. My clothing: shorts, short sleeve jersey, and arm sleeves. With the temperature approaching 90 degrees the arm sleeves are still comfortable because they breathe. Salt stains show which means wicking is happening producing some cooling effect.
After the effort on yesterday’s slightly longer ride I think today was a recovery ride. The energy level was lower and my average speed only got up to 14.0 mph.
When I made the short ride on SH 242 to the west I went far enough to look at the recently opened Grand Texas amusement park. Being a week day I didn’t see many people there but I read that over 10,000 tickets were sold for the Memorial Day weekend. No impact on my biking so far.
Another first occurred in New Caney when I rode by the newly opened Wienerschnitzel restaurant. It is next door to McDonalds and the first of 15 stores supposed to open in Houston. Interesting that they chose New Caney for their first one. This also didn’t impact my ride.
School is out for the New Caney ISD and not much traffic around the four schools I passed. I finished the ride at 2:13 PM.
With my Canyon Endurace CF SLX bike at 10,148 miles I looked at my other gear I track and note their miles too:
- Catlike Mixino helmet 3,118 miles
- Sidi Road shoes 16,985 miles
- Powerpod 14,523 miles
- Wahoo Elemnt computer 22,150 miles
- Wahoo TickrFit heart rate monitor 5,316 miles
Thursday weather might include rain but it appears to be spread around so I might be able to ride.
