Arm Sleeve Aerodynamics? Bike Ride
After watching the finish of today’s Giro d’Italia stage I got ready and headed out to ride my bike. I chose the “Atascocita – Walden – E. Lake Houston Parkway” route and rode 28.88 miles. I have an afternoon commitment which required me to keep the ride shorter than normal. So far this week I biked 145.94 miles and 405.75 miles for May.
Weather for today’s ride was great with some clouds: start 83 (69% humidity), partly cloudy, wind S 5 mph. Finish 85 (57% humidity), mostly cloudy, wind S 6 mph. Attire for today: shorts, short sleeve jersey, and arm sleeves. I jokingly told my wife I think the arm sleeves improved my aerodynamics enabling me to improve my average speed by .2 mph.
Nothing out of the ordinary along the route except the trees were removed from the greenbelt sidewalk on Kingwood Drive. I saw a couple of casual bikers in Kingwood before I headed south. My legs felt good today allowing me to get my overall average speed up to 14.5 mph on the way back to Kingwood. Once I was back in Kingwood the starts and stops lowered it to 14.2 mph.
Some physical data:
- average heart rate 127
- max heart rate 147
- average power 140 watts
- max power 454 watts
Friday weather looks favorable for biking with more clouds.
