Took A Chance On The Weather Bike Ride
I took a chance on biking today and ran into rain before I got to FM 1960. Starting out at 10:08 AM I planned on biking to Huffman but the weather wasn’t very friendly. It was cool and overcast so I dressed to compensate with shorts, long sleeve jersey, and a short sleeve jersey. Weather during the bike ride: start 71 (95% humidity), fog/mist, wind N 6 mph. Finish 71 (96% humidity), light rain, wind N 9 mph.
In the first mile as I rode west on Clear Ridge Drive I weaved among all of the parked cars from the swim meet at the Elm Grove Village pool. I chuckled as I saw all of the wet children and the coolness with the temperature not fazing them. At the corner of Sweet Gum Trail I saw the house at the SE corner. A couple of people were up on what remained of the roof spreading a blue tarp to cover the massive hole where a tree fell smashing the entire roof. I am not sure when this happened since I have been by this spot since the heavy rain last Tuesday. I hope the owners saved some of their belongings. Later as I stopped at Bassingham Drive a very large truck drove by after picking up flood damaged debris in Elm Grove and Sherwood Trails.
Feeling refreshed from not biking yesterday (Friday) my legs powered me along. Before leaving on the ride I checked the weather radar and saw the rain to the south but generally south of I-10 giving me encouragement to ride. At Kingwood Drive the fallen tree blocking the sidewalk was still there so I lifted the Canyon over and cut through the Kingwood High School parking lot to avoid other trees blocking the sidewalk. I started to notice some light mist but hoped it would not get heavier. It stayed about the same as I rode south on W. Lake Houston Parkway with the street damp but not wet enough to spray. But when I got to Kings Parkway the road was wet and I saw rain ahead and made the decision to turn back going left on Kings Parkway. Below is the weather radar at the start of the bike ride.
As I rode back to the north the mist increased but not to the point of rain. Sometimes when I am north of the river the rain will stop but today it kept misting until I was almost home when I finished at 11:33 AM.
After finishing the bike ride I did battle with the garden hose rack before washing the Canyon bike finally resorting to going back to the old hose rack because the new one could not hold the hose and the hose connection leaked.
Tomorrow (Sunday) is Mother’s Day so biking probably will not happen but the rainy weather is supposed to be gone.
