“Atascocita – Walden – E. Lake Houston Parkway” with a side of Fairlake Drive Bike Ride
My planned bike ride route depended on the bridge construction on Old Atascocita Road at the railroad tracks to be completed or no work crews present. When I got there City of Houston work crews busied themselves on the worksite short circuiting my route to plan B, “Atascocita – Walden – E. Lake Houston Parkway” with a side of Fairlake Drive. Instead of 31 miles I rode 30.2 miles which is not bad but not what or where I expected to ride. What it looked like at the bridge. It looks like the guardrails will be the last pieces to finish the job but I could be wrong.
The ride began at 12:16 Pm and the weather during the bike ride: start 72 (90% humidity),overcast, wind S 8 mph. Finish 73 (88% humidity), overcast, wind S 8 mph. It wasn’t quite as warm as the forecast but for February I am glad. I dressed for it with shorts, long sleeve jersey under a windbreaker jacket, and half finger gloves. At the start I zipped the jacket higher but as it progressed I lowered it some to allow the body heat to escape.
With today’s miles February stands at 109.18, 32% of my goal for February.
On the way back to Kingwood I stopped on Atascocita Shores Drive and took these photos.
This wasn’t a high energy ride with my average hear rate at 128 (73%), max at 151 (86%). Power 123 watts average and 397 watts max. I am starting to rebuild my condition from taking the month of December off.
Returning to Kingwood i beat the high school traffic and when I got to Kingwood Drive the traffic light was in my favor not requiring a stop. I went on to finish the ride at 2:43PM.
Wednesday weather forecast looks like a repeat of today. Thursday weather shows a front arriving and temperatures going down. Wednesday may be the last ride this week until Saturday or Sunday.
