37 MPH Gusts, Overcast Sky Warmer Bike Ride
Since my last bike ride on Friday the weather refused to move above my cold temperature threshold until today. I set out on the “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route at 11:59 am needing 67 miles to reach my 300 mile goal for January. I knew that distance wasn’t happening so I ended up biking 31.62 miles cutting the short fall to 46 miles. If the January weather cooperates the goal is close and I am better than 2018.
I took these screenshots of the weather at the start and didn’t realize the wind was so strong at the airport. I felt it while biking but I think it was less along the route.
While the temperature was 70 degrees at the start I didn’t go too light on the clothing. I left the leg warmers, long sleeve thermal jersey, and full finger gloves at home. The kit consisted of a long sleeve jersey, shorts, wind breaker jacket, and half finger gloves. With the brisk wind I felt chilly at times but overall was comfortable. Along FM 1960 light rain fell on me several times but I rode out of it or it blew away.
I stopped around the 1.1 mile point and took this photo on the Hunters Ridge Village greenbelt trail.
The jacket was unzipped to get my phone out but during the ride I kept it zipped up.
Nothing unusual about the bike ride. The bridge is still closed on Old Atascocita Road according to the sign at Fairlake Drive and FM 1960. The turnaround in Huffman position me so that wind came from my left side until I made the right turn onto Atascocita Shores Drive when it moved to a tailwind for most the way home.
Fighting the wind produced average watts of 132, 479 max watts. Heart rate averaged 133 with a max of 159.
I finished at 2:31 pm and the wind was even stronger. These screenshots are at the finish.
Another front arrives late tonight and biking weather (for me) goes down hill until Saturday or Sunday.
