Light Rain With Mud Bike Ride
I rolled out the driveway at 12:24 pm greeted by some light drizzle hitting my jacket and handlebars. Looking up to the sky I saw a gray cloud above but the not very large. With a tight window to ride today and needing miles to reach my November goal I kept riding. I put together a route that I thought would be at least 18 miles long and ended up biking 20.59 miles on what I named the “Kingwood – Woodridge Forest” route. Those mile put my November total at 297.6 miles, leaving 62.4 miles to reach my 360 mile goal. Year to date I am at 7708.9 miles, well over my 6,800 mile goal. This will be the most miles ever biked in a year.
I probably over dressed for the ride with shorts, leg warmers, thermal long sleeve jersey and half finger gloves. Weather: start 66 (83% humidity), cloudy, wind S 6 mph. Finish 72 (81% humidity), mostly cloudy, wind SW 9 mph. At the finish the thermal jersey was soaked.
The rain lasted until 2 1/2 miles into the ride but the streets were wet enough and the streets dirty enough that I got a good coating of mud sprayed on me and the Canyon Endurace CF SLX. After finishing the ride I washed the Canyon off, cleaned my shoes and wiped the leg warmers off sort of. Other than the rain and wet streets the ride went well. The route kept me north of the San Jacinto River and I got back at 2:00 pm in time to watch the UC Bearcats football game against East Carolina University.
Saturday weather will be warmer and drier. I plan biking and get closer to my November goal.
