61 Degrees, Barely Above Threshold Bike Ride
The weather didn’t change from yesterday. At the 12:56 pm start the temperature was 59.5 degrees, .5 degree my cold threshold but I went ahead and went on the ride. I wanted to ride at least 24 miles (2 days worth of my monthly goal). I chose the “Kingwood – Community Drive-Valley Ranch” route for 25.4 miles. This puts me at 276.98 miles for November, 83 miles away from my 360 mile goal. The Canyon Endurace CF SLX reached 7,019 miles. Now I can make the changes I wrote about yesterday.
Weather conditions at the start and finish of the bike ride.
I bundled up again with shorts, leg warmers, long sleeve thermal jersey, long sleeve jersey, wind breaker jacket, and full finger gloves. I felt warm after the about 3 miles when the body heat started to kick in. Around the 15 mile point as I rode in the sun a few sprinkles fell. At first I thought it some dust or dirt caused the sound on my jacket but when I looked at the handlebar and Elemnt computer small drops rested there. I looked up at the sky to see where the cloud might be but the only ones I saw were to the west and north. It didn’t last long, thankfully.
Stopping at the lake in Valley Ranch I took these photos.
When I took my gloves off to take the pictures I was surprise that my hands didn’t get cold but I was glad to put them back on when I started riding again. The first photo shows a jogger in the distance. In the third photo in the background is a young man. He was singing rap songs loud enough for me to hear.
My overall average speed got up to 14.2 mph and I held 14.1 mph to the finish at 2:49 pm. I surprised my wife at the end when she walked out the back door just as I got to the gate.
Thursday is Thanksgiving Day, no biking. Friday weather might not allow biking and at 2:30 pm the UC Bearcats play the ECU Pirates football game.
