Late Start, Gray Clouds, Rain Avoided Bike Ride
This morning when I got up bicycling today did not look promising. A light rain was coming down and the streets were wet but then it stopped. Looking at the weather radar the patch of rain was gone and I thought maybe it will clear off and i can go riding. About 10:30 am it looked like a good time to ride but it started raining even though the radar didn’t show the rain. So I worked on a project until the sky cleared some and left on the ride at 12:52 pm. Due to the later start I chose a short route; “Kingwood-Community Drive-Valley Ranch”. I rode 25.31 miles.
Biking to the north the sky didn’t look too bad but in my rearview mirror the clouds were dark gray, maybe enhanced by my sunglasses. At Community Drive I made the turn back to the south and began to wonder if I would get home dry. I picked up the pace glad that I picked a shorter route so as not to get too far from home. Making my way to Valley Ranch Parkway my concerns held steady and back at the I-69/US59 service road I took these photos of where I was headed.
Rather than take a chance of getting wet I stayed on the service road all the way to Kingwood Drive without stopping to refill my water bottle. A couple of times during that section I felt a few rain drops but not enough to get me wet. As I rode my mind thought of places I could go to in case the rain started but I didn’t need to do that. Going through Kings Manor a few more drops hit me but still no real rain. The rain held off and I finished the bike ride at 2:45 pm without getting rained on.
With today’s miles I only need 26 more to reach my 700 mile goal for September. The weather is doing its best to slow my riding down but I will keep at it. As of now the chance of rain on Thursday is 50% so biking is possible.
