From Threatening Clouds to Blue Sky Bike Ride
When I set out on today’s bike ride at 11:20 am (later than I planned, still dealing with computer problems) the sky looked threatening in almost every direction. Initially I wanted to ride longer but after looking at the sky I chose the “Kingwood to Ramsey Road – Huffman” route and biked 37.12 miles. I am now 59 miles away from my September goal of 700 miles. With 5 potential biking days left I should reach my goal but the rain could be a problem.
Speaking of rain, around 2 miles into the bike ride sprinkles began to fall but I pressed on because it didn’t increase and maybe I would ride out of it. After about 1/2 a mile the sprinkles disappeared but the clouds still looked like rain. Weather during the bike ride: start 84 (73% humidity), mostly cloudy, wind S 7 mph. Finish 87 (71% humidity), mostly cloudy, wind SE 13 mph. It feels like fall and the cloud cover and backtracking cool front from the other day play a part.
As the ride progressed I started seeing some blue sky and the clouds changed from gray to white. Maybe that 13 mph wind pushed the gray clouds away? Bicycling east on Old Atascocita Road in front of me I saw gray clouds white in mirror I saw blue sky. At the turn around at Ramsey Road I took these photos.
A big change in the sky from when I started.
After enjoying the view I got back on the Canyon bike and rode west on Old Atascocita Road to FM 2100. Arriving in Huffman I made a stop at the Chevron station to refill my water and ice. I was there about 10 minutes and then began the ride to the west. That 13 mph SE wind helped some but not as much as I hoped for. When I rode east on Old Atascocita Road the headwind was strong enough that my watts showed close to 300 or more for about 2 1/2 miles east of FM 2100. Turning north at Atascocita Shores Drive the wind started helping more since it was mostly at my back or I was out of its path among houses and trees.
The ride back into Kingwood followed W. Lake Houston Parkway north and then on to side streets to finish at 2:15 pm.
Not sure about the weather on Wednesday but I plan on biking if possible.
