High Humidity Is The Price to Pay For 8:07AM Bike Ride
I almost started biking before 8 am but I missed it and wheels rolled at 8:07 am. I wanted to start early to beat the potential rain (which looks like a non-event now) and see other cyclists along the “Kingwood to Ramsey Road – Huffman” route. Also I wanted to bike far enough to push the week’s total miles over 200. I biked 35.76 miles putting the week’s total at 223.88 miles, the highest week since 6/25/2018. I saw over 40 cyclists along the route starting in Kingwood but the majority of them were on FM 1960, Fairlake Drive and Old Atascocita Road.
With the early start the weather was not hot yet but the humidity was high at 93% resulting in sweat flowing. It went down by the end of the bike ride. Weather during the bike ride: start 75 (93% humidity), a few clouds, wind NE 7 mph. Finish 87 (72% humidity), mostly cloudy, wind SE 9 mph. Wind shouldn’t have been too bad at 9 mph but I had to put out 200 to 300 watts to keep my speed above 16 mph all the way to the Ramsey Road turn around.
Photos of some of the cyclists I saw during the bike ride.
After making the turn around at Ramsey Road I didn’t see any other bikers for the rest of the ride.
The only rest stop was at the Huffman Chevron just long enough to refill my water bottle with ice and water for the 11+ miles to the finish. I could see the clouds moving to north while I was there looking like a chance of rain later. You can see some clouds in the photos above.
From Huffman the wind wasn’t holding me make and the watts dropped below the 200 to 300 range from riding into the wind. Now I could coast at times or when I did pedal the effort was low enough that the watts were below 100. With this help I improved my overall average speed to 14.5 mph and held it there until I was back in Kingwood. I finished the ride at 10:52 am which is earlier than some of my rides begin.
Sunday may be a rest day after biking each day this week and in a good position as far as miles to goal.
