Another Spring Cool Front Bike Ride
I don’t know about you but I am ready for the spring cool fronts to end. The last two days riding in short sleeve jerseys spoiled me and switching back to shorts, long sleeve thermal jersey and short sleeve jersey for today’s ride was sad. Riding the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route the stiff north wind was chilly. I biked 34.09 miles under a bright blue sky (thanks to that spring cool front last night). Weather during the bike ride: start 70 (52% humidity), clear, wind N10 mph, gusts 21 mph. Finish 75 (47% humidity), clear, wind N 9 mph, gusts 17 mph.
Yesterday I received the replacement strap from Wahoo Fitness for my TickR Fit heart rate monitor. The original strap came apart and the new one is supposed to have better glue holding the two sides of the strap together. One side is hook and the other is loop like Velcro.
Starting at 11:43 am I waited some hoping the temperature would get to 70 which it finally did. Riding in the shade emphasized the wind chill but as I warmed up it became less of an issue. Two other cyclists were out enjoying the sun but not sure about the coolness. The first one was on W. Lake Houston Parkway by Amegy Bank as I rode south and the second was later in the ride.
Stopping at the Huffman Chevron at the 22.3 mile point I rested for a few minutes, ate some granola bars and refilled my water bottle. I wanted to rest up before battling the wind going west on FM 1960 especially over Lake Houston. But it turned out the wind wasn’t that bad allowing me to improve the average speed.
Going through Atascocita Shores and Kings River on the way back to W. Lake Houston Parkway the wind was interrupted by the trees and houses in the lower spots helping me keep a good pace. Once I was riding north on W. Lake Houston Parkway the wind had a good shot at me but I was able to maintain my speed. Once I got to Town Center Park I slowed down because my legs told me to until I finished the ride at 2:16 pm.
More great weather on Friday with the temperature about 5 degrees warmer.
