Chasing The Orange Jersey Bike Ride
Just ahead of me after I crossed FM 1485 on the I-69/US59 I saw another cyclist in an orange jersey. I sped up hoping to catch him but I never could close the gap. At the Creekwood Drive under pass at Patton Village he made the u-turn while I continued straight as I biked the “Kingwood – Splendora – Kingwood” route. With the chasing effort I drove up my average speed to 16.0 mph at the u-turn in Splendora and FM 2090.
Before I left Splendora I rode across the northbound service road from the Chevron station and took these photos. Wildflowers are still blooming. (click on the image to enlarge it)
The plan was to bike enough miles to reach 600 for the month. I biked 39.83 miles surpassing the 600 mile mark for April by 3.4 miles. This improved the week total to 122.93 miles.
Weather during the bike ride: start 82 (64% humidity), partly cloudy, wind W 6 mph. Finish 86 (55% humidity), mostly cloudy, wind SW 6 mph. The light wind helped me on the way to Splendora and wasn’t too much of a problem on the way back south. I maintained my average speed at 15.7 mph until I stopped at the Valero station Northpark Drive and I-69/US59 to refill my water bottle and eat a pair of granola bars.
Earlier on the southbound section after riding through Valley Ranch I stopped at the exit and took these two photos.
I got an earlier start (11:00 am) today planning to watch the Astros and Angels game but didn’t make it back home for the start of the game finishing the ride at 1:58 pm. I did manage to watch the 7th through 9th innings though after I went to pickup my Jeep Wrangler from the repair shop.
As the bike ride progressed the clear sky began gathering clouds as a cool front approaches. The front should pass through around midnight with light rain with clearing in time for biking on Thursday. If the forecast holds the sun should be back then. I will be riding to add to April miles.
