A Family Tradition
Lisa Doggett | www.lisadoggett.com
When I was a kid, a favorite family activity was biking on the weekends around Town Lake (now called Lady Bird Lake). Before I could ride my own bike, my parents would carry my sister and me in little seats on the back of their bikes. …
Man Training For Ironman Looking For Late Father’s Bike That Was Stolen
dfw.cbslocal.com
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A Dallas man competing in his first Ironman triathlon had his training put on hold after someone stole a bike he was using. The bike belonged to his late father.
Stiles Harper is less than a week away from competing in the Ironman triathlon in Houston. He’s been training for six months and planned to ride his father’s bike. …
Cycling the Hill Country of Texas
Cycle4Retirement | cycle4retirement.com
We recently returned from a six-day, five-night tour following the Adventure Cycling route starting in Fredericksburg, TX, cycling counter-clockwise through Albert, Blanco, and New Braunfels and Austin. We then took the Pendenales Cutoff back to Fredericksburg. We used a mixture of camping and hotels. We also decided to eat all meals in restaurants so we didn’t bring any cooking gear. (This decision will haunt us later…)
Day 1 – Fredericksburg to Blanco Texas (45.94 miles, 1,765 feet)
We started off our tour with a dose of Texas hospitality in the quaint town of Fredericksburg. The Market Platz, German beer gardens, sausages, bakeries, music, and surnames …
Video: What’s the most dangerous stretch of road for bicyclists in Austin?
Pam LeBlanc | fitness.blog.austin360.com
Anyone who has ridden a bicycle around Austin on a regular basis knows the feeling of a near miss.
In my 15 or so years of pedaling to work, I’ve come close to getting hit by a car several times. I’ve also been yelled at, spit on and flipped off, but that’s another story. I still love to bike to work, and it helps keep me fit and happy – two things I don’t get from getting stuck in traffic when I drive my car down MoPac Boulevard. …
Cycling’s king of Texas
Brian Argabright | delrionewsherald.com
Few cyclists can lay claim to the accomplishments of ultra-cyclist Dex Tooke.
The career rider already owned the north to south record for the World Ultra Cycling Association’s Texas Cross State. It’s an 873-mile route that took him just over 64 hours to complete.

Day 20: Adrian TX to Tucumcari NM: A new landscape
Sunday April 22, 2018, 70 miles (113 km) – Total so far: 1,047 miles (1,685 km)
We had a nice start today, six miles on the flat service road with no traffic. Then the road ended and we rode 20 miles on I-40 which was very smooth and fast. It was a little nerve-racking. I’m not wild about the vacuum you feel sometimes when the trucks pass and pull you along a little in their draft. It did help our average for the day of 12 mph though. …

Sanderson to Langtry and Langtry to Del Rio: Two hard days
Monday April 23, 2018, 90 miles (145 km) – Total so far: 328 miles (528 km)
I guess it wasn’t too hard because I did it, 62 miles yesterday and 28 miles today with a persistent head wind.
I know that in touring you have to feel great full for
What ever accommodations you find when you’re exhausted, can’t go any farther, and know that however bad, things could be worse… but …The dump we slept in in Langtry will
probably make it to my superlative list at the end of my journal. It had no lights and a …

Day 20: Madisonville to Buffalo: Cycling Road Selection Theorem 101
Monday April 23, 2018, 39 miles (63 km) – Total so far: 822 miles (1,323 km)
I have a theorem, which I believe tombe true, and the road we chose today worked perfectly based upon this choice. When cycling in direction (or directly away) from a major city, it helps to find a small road which parallels a major highway. Cycle the small road, while traffic uses the big highway. …

Day 42. Carmine to Richards
Tuesday April 24, 2018, 112 km (70 miles) – Total so far: 2,975 km (1,849 miles)
Today was a glorious day for riding. The ACA route travels on excellent Farm Road 390 which has good pavement and shoulders plus little traffic. The area is once again lush and prosperous looking with a few hills thrown in for good measure. We stopped for lunch in Navasota at Classic Rock Coffee. It’s on the left side coming into town. Don’t be turned off by the lack of ambiance or the music. The salads, flatbreads, and …

Shared use paths make a big difference in our communities. Our 8-mile ride through @CityofMcAllen was not only fun but safe. Our group was able to travel from downtown to Dove by traveling through residential bike lanes and hike & bike trails. #BikeMcAllen #RGV Cc: @BikeTexas pic.twitter.com/nIaiCLK7GS
